Presentation | Conversation: Art and Engagement – Hajnalka Somogyi & What, How & for Whom/WHW
How does art react to political and social upheavals? How can people in the culture industry assume more responsibility in society? How can the art scene retain its status as a public space that is accessible to everyone?
Hungary and Croatia’s political landscapes are changing dramatically. The states are increasing their influence on art and cultural institutions, controlling contents and cutting subsidies. Two representatives of the independent art scenes of Budapest and Zagreb talk about their strategies and perspectives and share their knowledge and ideas.
Hajnalka Somogyi is curator and project manager of the Off-Biennale Budapest, which she initiated in 2015.
What, How & for Whom/WHW is a Zagreb- and Berlin-based collective of curators. Founded in Zagreb in 1999, WHW operate the Galerija Nova in Zagreb and have realized projects and exhibitions across the globe.
